1 What is the digital nomad visa?

It is a new residence permit designed for international teleworkers who wish to reside in Spain and can work remotely using electronic means. 

2 Who can apply for it?

Nationals of non-EU countries who work remotely for a foreign company, or work on their own account with global clients, as well as foreigners who already have a residency in Spain and wish to change it to this one.

3 Where can I apply for a digital nomad visa?

You can apply for the digital nomad visa  from Spain, if you are in a regular status in the country.

The other way to obtain it is to apply through the consulate or embassy from your country of origin/residence.  

4 What are the financial meant to prove?

The principal applicant must demonstrate monthly 200% of the minimum interprofessional wage (SMI), which has recently increased to €1,134 (in 14 salary payments). In Spain the SMI is determined always in 14 payslips per year, not 12.

Therefore, the total monthly amount to demonstrate is €2,646 if the payslips per year are 12.

For family members, the amount to prove is 75% of the SMI for the first additional family member (€850,50/month) and from the second, 25% of the SMI (283,50/month).

5 How long do I have to apply for this visa from the moment I arrive in Spain as a tourist?

As a tourist you have 90 days from the date of entry to Spain to apply for your Digital Nomad Visa, although it is recommended that you prepare and submit your application as soon as possible.

6 How long is the Nomad visa valid for?

  • If it is requested from the Consulate in the country of origin, it is valid for 1 year.
  • If you apply for it from Spain, you will directly obtain the residence permit for 3 year

7 Can my family apply for the same visa as dependents?

Yes, it is possible to include your family members in the same application, or bring them at a later time.

8 Does the time that this visa lasts count as a period of residence to apply for Spanish citizenship?

The period of residence with this permit counts towards Spanish citizenship, which is generally required for 10 years, but in some cases it is 2 years.

9 Can I work for a Spanish company with this visa?

Only if you are self-employed. In this case you can work for a Spanish company, but you can only get from this professional relationship a maximum of 20% of your income as a digital nomad.

10 How long can I stay outside Spain?

The maximum time you can stay outside Spain with this residence permit is 6 months within a calendar year.

11 How long can I stay outside Spain?

No, in relation to the previous question, only departures when traveling outside the European Union will be counted. As a holder of this permit, you may travel freely throughout Europe without it counting as a period of absence in Spain.

12 Can family members work in Spain with this visa?

Yes, they can, as this type of residence permit allows them to work both as self-employed persons and as employees.
